— The Soloist —
THEN
The album “THEN” is Ainas debut solo album as a saxophonist, a collection of her absolute favorite works for saxophone. It contains music that is a true inspiration, it has been for many years to her, and works that are newer and more up and coming. The repertoar is carefully chosen and where she has embraced the pieces, making them as her own. Aina wanted to capture pieces that are hidden in the history, maybe not recorded as much together with wonderful music that is performed several times before, and new music.
The musicians that is a part of the album are handpicked, and truly people that gives a lot from their hearts. They have been working hard to make this an album you can cherish for years to come!
She received support from CREO and Furestiftelsen to make it possible touring possible, and ensured the musicians fair salary. She is very very grateful, and it opens up the possibilities for the album so much more. There have been lots of expenses that wasn’t covered, so if you want to support everyone in project, they will all appreciate it greatly, still! You can donate below or buy the album through this link.
By donating you will be helping Aina as an artist, you will be securing salary, travelling expenses and so much more to a lot of artists (photographers, designer, musicians, studio) that have suffered during corona and you will be able to listen to Ainas colorful and beautiful saxophone sound in your very own living room at any time.
“I am forever grateful for your donation and wish to help me produce this dream and treasure of mine! Thank you, thank you, thank you and lots of love your way!” – Aina H. Davidsen
Kvinnelige Krefter // Female Forces
Kvinnelige Krefter// The Force of Females is a concert-series made of exclusively female composers written music from 19th century until today. The music is for solo-saxophone and has a duration of approximately 40-45 minutes. When I finished my masters in 2017 I wrote a 20min piece named “Inner Piece, Outer Frustration” that opened my eyes to composition. I wanted to be able to make something of my own and make a concert-series focusing on this, giving love and heart to beautifully compositions that are more or less undiscovered. Since 2017 I have finished one more piece “SÅRT” and are almost finished with two more. However in this concert-series “SÅRT” is the only one written by me on the program so far.
The other women that currently is on the program is Lera Auerbach, Jeanine Reuff, Hope Lee & Emma Field, all from different countries and backgrounds. I am constantly researching for more composers and music, and am quite open to the style and genre. During the concert I improvise a lot and include the audience in the background of the music, the forms and my history. It is a very open and warm concert.
Contemporary music
Currently I am working on different projects within contemporary music. I think contemporary music in public can be a little misunderstood at times because of the many different directions it can go in. It can be anything from John Cages 4:33 where there is almost complete silence and the audience´s sounds are the music to Maslanka´s compositions mirroring oldschool classical music decades or Philip Glass´s music reminding of film-music. I create my own music and I think more classical musicians should try this. You learn a lot about what composers wants and how they have to work to finish something, getting their music out. You learn a lot about yourself as a musicians, your possibilities and what you want to convey through music. It is very common within the jazz/rythmic world to make something of your own, however we can all learn something from eachother! When I write my music I don´t think that it should sound like something or should be contemporary. What makes it contemporary is that it is made right now, in this day – this moment! So it can really be anything you want, you can say anything and form it in your way. If it is good or bad comes to how you use your library of music and knowledge inside to form the music and get it out there. You can always expand your horizon by studying with other composers, compositions or learn more on your own instrument. There is so many possibilities in the world, grab them and make them your choices.
